The Up-Close of Molting Process (Video)

 

Today, I am going to share with you the molting process of C. lyoni; well at least the last step where it pushes itself from the old exoskeleton. From my experience in inbreeding this species for genetic manipulation in the lab, every time the spider initiates the process, it displays darkening of the old cuticle in which it signals the emergence of the new cuticle from the inside of the body. It is fascinating to document how it shed the old skin. During the process, the legs are curled in beautiful formation like a diamond as can be seen from the video.
