DIY DNA/RNA Extractor/Homogenizer
As a amateur biohacker, I have designed a cheap prechilled DNA/RNA extractor where spiderling tissues can be homogenized in 1.5ml microcentrifuge tube while maintaining on ice. It is made of butter and cake containers that are filled with ice gel and water;insulated with foam. The main reason for this is to imitate the snap-freeze step for the tissues however, since my project could not afford to buy liquid nitrogen and we do not have the cryopreservation system yet, the DIY prototype was opted to fulfill the purpose. Though, not as efficient as the commercial container, yet, it still can freeze the tissue sample for quite sometime while homogenization is in progress.
